The Sanibel Causeway Beaches
When you leave the Florida mainland to drive across the Sanibel
Causeway you will get
your first breathtaking views of the Island of Sanibel. The Sanibel
Causeway beaches are three manmade beaches along the three-mile
stretch. They are great places to stop for a picnic and you will
probably see windsurfers out.
Usually bustling with activity, seeing
people on the causeway beaches always excites me because they signal
the release of stress and the beginning of the island easiness that
permeates Sanibel. Even though the causeway boat traffic is near, the
causeway beaches have shallow water that is great for kids to play in
without fear of heavy currents.
Dolphins and manatees can also be
spotted playing and searching for food in the bay, and you will often
see fishermen casting their nets along the beach trying to catch live
bait. You can pull your car right off the causeway up to the beach,
and there is no fee.
